De-Fi Radio #6

Tonight, the first mello De-Fi Radio.

Suscribe to the De-Fi Radio feed.

Thats right i caught the mellow bug that has been going around the podosphere lately. So sit back, turn the lights down, maybe light a candle or 7, and snuggle up with a bottle (or two) of wine.

Whats that? You don't have a wine? Well allow me to suggest two:

  • Bogle Vineyards' 2002 Merlot. A good wine for "just drinking" as well as many meals. Although it doesn't work with all pasta dishes and fish. Still, a wine worthy of your glass.

  • G|E|N|E|S|I|S by Hogue's 2001 Merlot. This wine goes great with any dish. We had it with tapas at The Global Grill and it complimented everything wonderfully. Extremely drinkable =) So far its my favorite merlot! =)

Ok i know. Enough about wines. Bands (and their songs) featured in tonight's show:

  • Just Six Spaces - The Same Beginning

Mike Mitchell and Steve Leighton say that they're a mix of tons stuff. Bands like Goo Goo Dolls, John Mayer, Third Eye Blind, etc. I say they've got a great sound all their own.

An acoustic alt. rock band from Philadelphia, PA these two guitarists have hit on something that is sure to be huge. Check them out at MySpace.com. If you ask nicely, maybe they'll sell you a copy of their three song demo? I know i'm asking for it! =)

  • Stephen Kelly - Muck Mosey

This 23-year old singer/songwriter/athlete never ceases to amaze. He began writing and performing at 15. His sports quickly limited his time but he kept writing whenever he could.

this perseverance has paid off. You can hear it in his perfectly-crafted songs, such as Muck Mosey and Petty Cash. Go check him out at StephenKelly.org. There you get a full bio, a discography and a tour schedule. Even cool pictures! =)

  • Apollo 13 - Lusitania

Remember them from De-Fi Radio #5? Well here they are again to prove just how diverse their repetoire is. If you're not blown away by their versatility and excellent songs, you must not have ears.

And if you're still not convinced about this band, visit their site, apollothirteen.com. Chck out the Music section where you can listen to songs from their newest album Brave New World.

  • Rob Augustine - Where She Dreams

Rob is a one man act right now. He is looking to get a band going so if you play an instrument, go check him out! He also has a CD coming out soon.

From his site: "I am a singer/songwriter/guitarist from upstate New York. If you enjoy Dave Matthews, John Mayer or Jack Johnson, you'll probably like my music."

I dig your music ROb!! Can'twait for the CD! =)

  • Diego Davidenko - Not Quite Right

A refreshingly laidback, eclectic sound, Diego is certainly unique. In fact, he's the first artist featured in De-Fi Radio that is not from the USA! =) In 1982 he and his family relocated to Utica, NY. He started writing and recording his own songs at the age of 7!

Not only does he write music, he will also write original music in any style for any purpose! How cool is that?

Plus, at his site you can listen to his songs, his original compositions, and watch some movies.
  • Averi - Way We Go Out

Born in 1998 amongst the entertainment of the Monica Lewinsky scandal, Averi is proof that good old fashioned word-of-mouth still creates something big. On their own they've sold over 15,000 CDs and amassed a huge fan base one person at a time. Not convinced they're great? Just ask the Boston Globe - they called Averi "one of the ten bands to watch in 2005" And check out The Boston Globe's feature of Averi.

Their latest album - Drawn to Revolving Doors is available on iTunes as well as at their site.

#6 Coming Soon

Hey everybody. Thanks so much for checking me out!! =) And thanks for listening! I'd love to know what you think so please leave a comment or send me some e-mail. =)

I planned on having #6 out on Friday but i've caught some sort of cold thing. I have the whole show laid out: The songs are in picked and in the order that i want them. I just need to record it.

But i don't want to do that while i am all congested and have a frog voice. I oculdn't subject you all to that! =)

I'm taking all of my vitamins, drinking tea, eating Ricolas like they were one of the basic food groups, and drinking plenty of fluids. I also have given myself a NyQuil I.V. drip.

But once this is goine, i have some amazing music set up for you! =)

Thanks for checking out the podcast and thanks to everyone that has subscribed!! I won't let you down, i promise!

De-Fi Radio #5

Number 5 is alive!!!

Direct link to the mp3.
The podcast feed.

Ok i'm sure thats not what you wanted to start with; a geeky movie quote from some 80's movie. But too late! :) I'll more than make up for it with this show. Lets get to it, yah?

  • 0:00 - 0:13 - a Creative Commons license anouncement.

  • 0:13 - 0:16 - Ronnie Day letting you know what you're listening to. :) Go buy his CD!! :)

  • 0:16 - 3:26
  • - Ronnie Day's Half-Moon Bay, the first track from Nine Sleepless Nights. If you're not convinced that you need to toss out your Dashboard Confessional CDs and replace them with this one, then you should at least add it to your Emo/Rock collection. =)

  • 3:26 - 3:53 - I dig Ronnie Day. I also dig ERIC. =)

  • 3:49 - 7:04 - Great Brit Rock from none other than great British musicians! ERIC has that warm, rich 60's Brit-Rock sound that can only come from a band that plays in Newport South Wales. Started in 2001, they cut their first cd - a 6-track, all original songs album - in December of 2002. Excellent feedback poured in and they toured all over the South Wales area.
Not satisfied to sit on their butts, they recorded a 4 song EP called This is Bliss and again, got great reviews.
January 2004 brought the launch of www.ericband.co.uk and many more gigs throughout South Wales.
2005 brought the departure of founding member and bassist, Matt. But the show must go on. Another bassist (Adji) was found and ERIC is back in the studio, laying down more excellent tracks. Keep checking their website info about the music and to get some Free Music.
    ERIC is:
  • Simon: guitars and vox
  • Steve: drums
  • Ade: lead guitar / dodgy-looking fellow
  • Adji: bass

  • 7:00 - 8:53 - pimping ERIC. =)

  • 8:53 - 9:47 - Apollo 13 came about because The Band That Saved the World (a funk band in Lawrence, KS) didn't want to pay the exorbitant fees the local recording studios demanded. So Mike Macfarland (keys and rythm guitar in TBTSW) decided to build one. Once it was finished, Shannon Savoie (lead vocalist/ frontman for TBTSTW and a lifelong songwriter) felt comfortable enough to begin exploring is ideas with Mike. These secret recordings soon became highly saught after. The thing kept snow balling and soon it was evident that a new band would form. A band they would call "Apollo 13". Check them out at Apollothirteen.com

  • 9:47 - 13:25 - Apollo 13 - I Spy

  • 13:25 - 15:48 - me talking. Memo to Jason at Insomnia Radio: I'M NOT WORTHY!

  • 15:48 - 19:20 - Remember American Suicide? Here's another track of theirs called Want It Bad

  • 19:20 - 19:48
    - More of my babbling =)

  • 19:48 - 24:25 - Remember Sunset City? This is another of their songs called Terrible Liars End Up on Missing Fliers

  • 24:25 - 27:14 - Go buy everyone of these bands' CDs!! =) And check out AMP for more great podcasts.

  • 27:14 - 30:43 - I don't like to play two songs from the same band in the same podcast, but i had to end De-Fi Radio #5 with this track from Apollo 13. Its called Hero.

Thanks so much for tuning in and listening! Stay subscribed! =) #6 is not far away! =)

Jason (from Insomnia Radio just told me that Double Shots: Round 7 is live!! You should be subscribed to his feed, but you can also grab the mp3 here. Show notes are at old site. =)

HUUUUUUUGE thanks to Jason for letting me host it! =) And even larger thanks for the plugs! =) Can we say, "possible server overload"?

IR Double Shots: Round 7 Out Soon

So i've pulled my version of Insomnia Radio's Double Shots: Round 7. Mine is the rough version and is not the finished version. Once Jason lets me know that the finished version is available, i will link it and might make my version available as the "Demo" version of Double Shots. That way you can hear the real one (with sweeps and bumpers and all) and my version. The "demo" version.

Sorry to confuse everyone. I just let my excitement get the better of me. =) Next time, i'll try to keep my emotions in check so they don't cloud my judgement.

Lots of Great News!

So i just wrapped De-Fi Radio #4 and i've gotten a ton of feedback! I also have some great news. Thanks so much! And if you want to leave some, you can comment here or e-mail me at defiradio -AT- gmail dot com.

So first off, let me share some comments with you:

  • one from my buddy Ben Taylor. He's going to start a techie type podcast and i get to be one of his first guests!!! Cool!!

  • The second comment was from Jason over at Insomnia Radio. He sent me an e-mail saying:
Ok. I've heard your show from start to finish. Truth follows:
You are my new favorite music show. No shit. I have no reason or motives to
impress you or butter you up, so ya know I'm not lying! Honestly, I was
rocking to every single song, and really enjoy the emo element to your show.
It kicks ass dude. Obviously I'm fond of all the other AMP podcasts, but I
can most identify with yours. Anyway, kudos kudos kudos. I love it.

How friggin' cool is that?!?!?!? I would now like to re-enact a scene from Wayne's Word: I'M NOT WORTHY! I'M NOT WORTHY!

  • And the third comment comes from one of the bands I featured in De-Fi Radio #4, Days In Between.
    Brian,

We all enjoyed listening to your podcast so much! Thanks so much for contacting us and saying such great things on your show.

Keep up the great work. Please be in touch.

    Matt

Now some big news

De-Fi Radio #4 - April 17 2005

Hey everybody! The latest De-Fi Radio
podcast icon picture - De-Fi Radio #4 - is live! You can grab it from here. And as always you can send some e-mail with comments, suggestions, whatever, to defiradio AT gmail DOT com. Just make sure to make it look like
blah@company.com replacing blah with defiradio and company.com with gmail.com.

Some excellent music is what i'm sure you want. So some excellent music is what you shall get! Here are the show notes:

  • 0:00 - 0:06 - Welcome intro

  • 0:00 - 3:31 - American Suicide - Coming Back.
A.S. is from Pensacola,FL. According to their website they have been together since 2000, went through a member change and are obviously unphased by it. A Pensacola favorite in the scene, high energy and great hooks are what you get from these guys. Look for the EP soon! We'll be watching these guys and will keep you posted on any news with them.

  • 3:31 - 4:18 - Have i mentioned that i dig American Suicide?

  • 4:18 - 7:50 - Sunset City - Donny and the Aviators.
Sunset City is a great band from Buffalo, New York. Their website has the latest info and a link to their purevolume and myspace.com. Of course, i provided you them here for simplicity's sake.

  • 7:50 - 9:17 - gotta pimp some sites, and of course De-Fi Radio and the e-mail address

  • 9:17 - 11:54 - 7of9 - Bride (shock and awe)
These 3 guys - Keith, Jeremey and Swerve) played in a bunch of different bands (one being the aforementioned American Suicide). These three small town guys feel like they've finally hit that combination that will be something big. And being something big - in music and performance - is just what they guys want to do. Based on their first EP, Losing Lives it seems they will do just that.

  • 11:54 - 12:10 - some more of my talking

  • 12:10 - 12:25 - Ronnie Day intro-ing his song Outside

  • 12:25 - 15:53 -
Picture of Ronnie DayRonnie Day - Outside.
This kid - and i call him a kid because he's younger than me =) - blew me away when i heard this track. He his first cd Nine Sleepless Nights went gold on March 7, 2005. Ronnie is just 17! That is what is
so amazing to me! He's got a ton of talent and we will surely keep an eye on him! In
the meantime, you should go check out the cd's website. There you can pick up his Nine SleepLess Nights CD and learn some more
about Ron. Go buy one now! =)
You should also check out his Purevolume.com site. You can listen
to all his songs and download a few, if you're still not convinced you need his CD.

  • 15:53 - 19:08 - pimping Ronnie Day. Jason from Insomnia Radio e-mail replies
about putting Arkitekt on Insomnia Radio! =)

  • 19:08 - 20:26 - Jason from Insomnia Radio e-mail reply #1. Glad i'm not the only one that has the "microphone problem" he has! =)

  • 20:26 - 21:30 - me talking again

  • 21:30
    - 21:50
    - Jason reply #2

  • 21:50 - 24:07 - setting up the next song

  • 24:07 - 28:48 - Days In Between - Find Your Way
Check these guys out at their official site, their purevolume site, and their my space site. From the bio at their site: "The Days In Between have managed to create something that is rare in the LA Music scene; a potent sound that is inherently full, commercially accessible, charismatic--and simply put--their own."

  • 28:48 - - pimping Days In Between =) and the end of De-Fi Radio #4 =(

As always leave me comments at De-Fi Radio or at the e-mail address - defiradio -at- gmail dot com. Hope you enjoy the music and thanks for listening!

New Digs, New Music

I've moved everything for the podcasts over to this new place. It was previously at briandewitt.blogspot.com and the RSS feed for the podcast was a really long, difficult URL. Now it is just feeds.feedburner.com/dfr.

And obviously the new web address is defiradio.blogspot.com. =)

I'm working on getting some great new music, i almost have enough for two or three podcasts so i will be getting back after it! =)

If you have any comments, suggestions, etc., you can e-mail it to me at defiradio -AT- gmail -DOT- com. And obviously make the e-mail address look like blah@blah.com. =) And if you're an unsigned or soon-to-be-signed band looking for some free exposure, send me an e-mail with some info and we'll get you on! =)
